PITT NEUROSCIENCE CHAIRMAN ASSUMES NATIONAL ASSOCIATION PRESIDENCY
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 7 --Ed Stricker, University Professor of Neuroscience and chair of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh since 1986, has begun a one-year term as president of the Association of Neuroscience Departments and Programs (ANDP).
The ANDP, a national organization of approximately 250 neuroscience department chairs and program directors from academic institutions in North America, promotes education and research training in academic neuroscience programs by disseminating information about neuroscience education and by providing a forum for discussion of issues in training and research at both the institutional and national levels. The ANDP is an independent organization that shares many interests with the 30,000-member Society for Neuroscience and works closely with that society.
Stricker was elected president by the ANDP's members in July 1999 and spent the last year as president-elect of the organization.
The co-director of Pitt's Center for Neuroscience, Stricker earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and his doctorate from Yale University.
