University of Pittsburgh's Student Volunteer Outreach to Host Its Second Annual "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" Event

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh Student Volunteer Outreach will host its second annual "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" event from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 for Pitt and UPMC staff and faculty whose children will visit campus as part of the national "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day." The event will be held in the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
The festivities, geared towards grade school children, will include educational exhibits and games that emphasize math, science, English, technology, and community service. A variety of arts and crafts activities also are planned for the children.
The event is organized by the AmeriCorps members of the Student Volunteer Outreach's Faith Tech, TechSERVE, and TechnoScout programs for their National Volunteer Week service project.
Contributions from the Vira I. Heinz Endowment and funding from the U.S. Department of Education and PennSERVE, the Governor's Office of Citizen Service, have enabled the Student Volunteer Outreach to host the event.
Local support includes Whole Foods, Home Depot, Dave and Busters, Carnegie Museum of Art, Kennywood Park, Pittsburgh Adolescent Alcohol Research Center, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Collegiate YMCA, America Reads, West Penn Hospital, Allegheny County Health Department, Center for Audiology, Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh Pirates, Senator John Heinz Regional History Center, Laurel Caverns Geological Park, Laurel Highlands River Tours, Caddy Shak, Fun Fore All, Robert Morris University Island Sports Center, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, National Aviary, Western Pennsylvania Hospital Burn Trauma Center, and the Center for Healthy Hearts and Souls. In addition, local merchants have donated items to raffle off to the children.
