February 28, 2003
PITTSBURGH—Andrew P. Hutelmyer, a University of Pittsburgh senior majoring in industrial engineering and media communications, received the 2003 Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) Senior of the Year recognition today at Pitt's annual Honors Convocation in Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.
ODK, founded in 1914 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., is an honorary society that recognizes students who maintain a high standard of leadership in collegiate activities. The award is given to students who possess and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities in service to the University.
An elected member of Pitt's Student Government Board, Hutelmyer has several other Pitt affiliations, including serving as president and director of activities for the Engineering Student Cabinet and memberships in the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Blue and Gold Society, and ODK.
In recognition of his scholarship, Hutelmyer has been awarded the Institute of Industrial Engineering Dwight D. Gardner Scholarship, the Anne Levenson Scholarship, the National Alpha Phi Mu Scholarship, and Pitt's School of Engineering Alumni Scholarship. He also is the Allias Undergraduate Teaching Fellow for the Industrial Engineering Department and is the recipient of the department's Co-outstanding Senior of the Year.
In addition, Hutelmyer has been involved with the School of Engineering's Swanson Institute, which has provided him an opportunity to become an entrepreneur. He has coinvented two products that hold provisional patents.
Hutelmyer's name, along with the names of previous ODK winners, is engraved in stone on the sidewalk between the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Chapel in Oakland. The walk is the only one of its kind in the country.
