Pitt’s Property and Facilities Committee Approves 3 Facility Upgrades

Contact:

PITTSBURGH—Today the Property and Facilities Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees approved $34.3 million for improvements to three facilities.

These projects will serve to enhance Pitt’s School of Education, the Oakland Innovation District and the Petersen Sports Complex. Details include:

Posvar Hall

As part of extensive upgrades to Posvar Hall, the committee approved an $8 million renovation of 65,000 square feet on the fifth floor that will benefit the School of Education. The project includes creating a more efficient floor design to foster collaboration while improving space usage, as well as the accommodation of future growth and the creation of a clearly defined entrance to the school.

Murdoch Office Building

The committee approved the expenditure of $9.8 million to complete tenant improvements to seven floors of the Murdoch Office Building, located at 3420 Forbes Ave. Owned by Murland Associates LP, the space will be leased to Pitt and occupied by several University tenants. The tenant improvements include interior walls and finishes, HVAC and lighting, as well as information technology infrastructure. Pitt’s presence as an anchor tenant in this building is a strategic step in the development of the Oakland Innovation District.

Petersen Sports Complex

The $16.5 million expansion approved by the committee will consolidate the baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and newly formed women’s lacrosse teams and coaches in one building. The work at the complex will provide additional space for locker rooms, restrooms and training, as well as room for coaches’ offices, sports medicine, nutrition services and equipment.
