Cofounder and Executive Director of Global Links to Receive Pitt's 2010 Johnson Institute Award, Deliver Lecture on Leadership, March 25
PITTSBURGH-Kathleen Hower, cofounder and executive director of Global Links, has been selected to receive the University of Pittsburgh's 2010 Johnson Institute Award for Exemplary Leadership. Upon receiving the award, Hower will deliver the Lecture of Exemplary Leadership-sponsored by Pitt's Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership-at 5 p.m. March 25 in Ballroom B, University Club, 123 University Pl., Oakland. Hower's lecture is titled "Leadership Doesn't Happen Alone."
In 1989, Hower cofounded Global Links, a not-for-profit medical relief and development organization that recovers surplus medical materials from U.S. hospitals and makes them available to hospitals in developing countries that serve the poorest members of society.
Global Links has provided more than $160 million in critical medical aid to developing nations, including Bolivia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, and Nicaragua.
The Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership, part of Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, is presenting the Exemplary Leadership Series to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of highly effective leaders who demonstrate the values of accountability, ethics, and responsibility. In addition to the annual lecture, the Johnson Institute will build a library of leadership case studies featuring speakers from the annual lectures that can be used as a teaching and research tool for students and faculty.
The event is free and open to the public, but prior registration is requested. A reception beginning at 4 p.m. will precede the event. Call the Johnson Institute at 412-628-1336 or send an e-mail to ethics@gspia.pitt.edu to register or for more information. Donations to Global Links will be accepted at the event.
