Pitt Nursing and Education Online Graduate Programs Improve in U.S. News & World Report Annual Rankings

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh nursing and education online graduate programs improved their rankings in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 Best Online Programs released today.

The graduate nursing program rose to 12th in the country, up from 23rd (tie) in 2016, and the graduate education program jumped 19 places, up to 47th (tie) from 66th (tie) last year.

The School of Nursing Online offers MSN degrees in clinical nurse leader and nursing informatics, as well as a certificate in nursing research and a post-master’s doctor of nursing practice degree.

The School of Education Online offers MEd degrees in elementary education, English and communications, mathematics education, and secondary social studies education.

The online nursing and education programs were created in 2009, when Pitt Online began, and respectively have 98 and 84 students enrolled as of the fall 2016 term. Pitt Online also offers programs through the School of Law, University Center for Social and Urban Research, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, and School of Information Sciences, as well as several massive open online courses. The Swanson School of Engineering also operates online programs separate from Pitt Online.

In ranking the online programs, U.S. News factored in student engagement, student services and technology, admissions selectivity, faculty credentials and training, and peer reputation.
