Pitt Executive Vice Chancellor to Retire
PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh Executive Vice Chancellor Jerome Cochran has informed Pitt Chancellor Patrick Gallagher of his intention to retire, effective December 31, 2014. Cochran has served as executive vice chancellor since August 1995, with responsibility for all of the nonacademic business functions at the University. He also served as Pitt’s general counsel from 2004 to 2013.
In announcing Cochran's decision to retire, Pitt Chancellor Patrick Gallagher thanked him for his extensive service to the University. “Through Jerry's dedicated service as our chief business officer, the University has benefitted in innumerable ways. His business acumen and commitment to providing the highest-quality support to the mission of the University has significantly contributed to the success that Pitt has enjoyed over the nearly past two decades,” Gallagher said. “His efforts have bolstered numerous education, research, and athletic initiatives, and he will leave Pitt with our sincere gratitude for his contributions to the University's progress. Over the next several months, we will be sure to provide a fitting salute to recognize his accomplishments before he officially retires.”
Chancellor Gallagher also announced that he has asked Art Ramicone, currently Pitt’s chief financial officer, to take on the additional responsibility of serving as interim executive vice chancellor, including responsibility for Auxiliaries, Business, Facilities Management, Human Resources, and Public Safety and Emergency Management. Ramicone will serve in this additional capacity for an indefinite period of time.
“This will provide continued stability within our business operations and provide me with the opportunity to spend the maximum amount of time required to properly evaluate and give careful consideration to the long-term future direction of the University's business operations,” Gallagher said.
