Pitt Trustee Property and Facilities Committee Approves Bruce Hall Renovation and Research Space Lease
PITTSBURGH—The Property and Facilities Committee of the University of Pittsburgh’s Board of Trustees today approved step one of a $7,795,000 renovation of Bruce Hall. The project is expected to generate 67 construction and construction-related jobs. The committee also approved a 10-year lease for space in the Rivertech Office Works complex for the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition.
The Bruce Hall project consists of interior and infrastructure upgrades, including storm and sanitary piping, creation of new handicapped accessible bathrooms, replacement of obsolete air handling units, and upgrades of door security hardware. The total project will be funded entirely from Auxiliary reserves.
The Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is currently leasing 7,790 square feet of office and laboratory space in the Rivertech complex. The new lease would expand the space needed to 11,667 square feet. The current space is occupied by multiple research programs within the department, and the increased space reflects the continued growth in research funding that the department has experienced. The department currently receives $44.2 million in research funding, and additional growth is expected.
