9/24 Natasha Tretheway, the current U.S. Poet Laureate and author of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning Native Guard, will deliver a free talk at 8:30 p.m., Frick Fine Arts Building Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.  It is the first lecture in the University of Pittsburgh Writing Program Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series. 9/27 The symposium “Becoming Mexico: Culture, Politics and the Imagined Americas” will be held at noon, 4130 Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. Segal Professor of American Social Thought and professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania, will deliver a lecture, “Achieving Social Justice in the Obama Era: Power and Legalities,” at 5 p.m.  in the Barco Law Building, Teplitz Memorial Courtroom, 3900 Forbes Ave., Oakland. EXHIBITIONS

Through 10/14 Pitt’s University Art Gallery (UAG) celebrates Pitt’s 225th anniversary with Faces to Names: 225 Years of Pitt Chancellors’ Portraits (1787-2012) in the UAG, Frick Fine Arts Building, 650 Schenley Drive, Oakland. This free historical exhibition features official portraits of 19 past Pitt chief executives, an array of watercolors of Pitt’s Nationality Rooms, and etchings and drawings of the Cathedral of learning. UAG hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
