Pitt Nationality Rooms Decorated for the Holidays; Taped and Guided Tours Available through Jan. 14

PITTSBURGH—Members of the University of Pittsburgh’s 27 Nationality Rooms committees will decorate their rooms in traditional holiday adornment, displaying holiday customs from around the world, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. 

Each year, the rooms are decorated in traditional holiday fashion, and tour guides adapt their daily presentations to include descriptions of the many holiday traditions celebrated throughout the world. The rooms remain decorated until Jan. 14, 2012.

On Saturdays—Nov. 19 and 26 and Dec. 3, 10, 17—taped tours will be available from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On Sundays—Nov. 13, 20, 27 and Dec. 11 and 18—taped tours will be available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

On Nov. 25 and Dec. 27 through Dec. 31, guided tours will be offered. Tours begin at 10:30 a.m., and the last tour will be dispatched at 2:30 p.m. Tours commence every half hour. Taped tours are unavailable during these times.

The University is closed Nov. 24, Dec. 24, 25, and 26, 2011, and Jan. 1, 2012. The Nationality Rooms annual open house will be held Dec. 4; no tours will be given that day, but rooms will be open for viewing.

Tickets can be purchased at the Gift Shop on the first floor of the Cathedral of Learning; reservations are not accepted. Admission is  $3 for adults and $1 for youths ages 8-18.
