Pitt to Host Conference of Scholars Influenced by Pitt Professor Katheryn Linduff

PITTSBURGH—University of Pittsburgh’s Department of the History of Art and Architecture and Asian Studies Center will host a free public conference of archeologists and art historians whose research has been influenced by Pitt professor Katheryn Linduff, a renowned scholar of early Chinese art and architecture. The conference will be held May 6 and 7 in the Auditorium of the Frick Fine Arts Building, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland. The conference, titled “China’s Periphery and Beyond: Perspectives From Art and Archaeology,” will begin at 8:30 a.m. both days and end at 5 p.m. on Friday and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. 

Linduff holds a joint appointment in the history of art and architecture and anthropology departments at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her PhD from Pitt in art history with a concentration on early Chinese art and archaeology. She has traveled extensively throughout China and Eurasia to conduct research on topics ranging from cultural diversity in ancient society to the change from agro-pastoralism to full nomadism in eastern and south-central Inner Mongolia in the People’s Republic of China. 

Twenty international scholars will present papers at the conference; topics range regionally from southern China to Mongolia and Japan and chronologically from the Neolithic to recent times.
