PITT TO HOLD DISCUSSION ON MIDEAST
PITTSBURGH, April 2 -- Robert G. Hazo, professor and director of the University of Pittsburgh's American Experience Lectures, and Rabbi Alvin K. Berkun, Tree of Life Synagogue, will discuss "Sharon and The Arab, Israeli, Palestinian Conflict," on Tuesday, April 10, at noon, in room 3J51 Posvar Hall, Bouquet Street, Oakland.
The event is free and open to the public.
Hazo, chairman of the Middle East Policy Association and regional spokesperson of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, studied the Middle East at Princeton University graduate school, and at the Sorbonne in Paris on a Fulbright Scholarship. He also lived in the Middle East for two years on a Rockefeller Fellowship. He has written extensively and spoken to many audiences about the Middle East.
Rabbi Berkun holds a B. A. from the University of Michigan in Near Eastern Studies and was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary, receiving an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. A former U.S. Navy chaplain, Rabbi Berkun has been involved in a number of civic and interfaith endeavors since arriving in Pittsburgh in 1983. He was a featured weekly panelist on WTAE TV's "In Good Faith" for more than 10 years.
