UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH HOSTS BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK TOWN MEETING MARCH 13

PITTSBURGH, March 7 -- You don't have to be a brain surgeon to attend the fourth annual Town Meeting in celebration of Brain Awareness Week on Monday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m., in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.

To demystify these technical subjects, the three guest speakers from the University of Pittsburgh will address their areas of expertise in layman's terms at the Town Meeting, which is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow the presentations.

The speakers and their topics are:

David Adelson, M.D., associate professor of neurosurgery, University of Pittsburgh, "Concussion and Children: More than You Think."

Teresa Hastings, assistant professor of neurology and neuroscience, University of Pittsburgh, "Antioxidants, Free Radicals, and Neurodegenerative Disease: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

Pat Levitt, professor and chair, Department of Neurobiology, and co-director, Center for Neuroscience, University of Pittsburgh, "Brain Development and Brain Diseases."
