PITT BOARD ELECTS EMERITUS TRUSTEES

PITTSBURGH, October 21 -- The University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees elected A. Alice Kindling and Howard M. Love as emeritus trustees at its meeting today.

Kindling, public health administrator for the Allegheny County Health Department, served as a trustee of the University from May 1972 until June of this year. Her trustee responsibilities included chairing the student affairs committee and assignments on the executive, academic affairs/libraries, health sciences, and nominating committees, and the ad hoc committees on athletics and long-range planning.

Kindling also served on the UPMC Health System Board of Directors, and as a member of the Board of Visitors for the School of Dental Medicine, School of Pharmacy, and Athletics. She continues as chairperson of the College of General Studies Board of Visitors. Kindling, who earned her undergraduate and master's degrees from Pitt, also was a member of the University's Bicentennial Commission and the chancellor search committee.

Love, retired chief executive officer of National Intergroup, Inc., was a trustee of the University from February 1981 to June 1999. During his tenure, he was chairman of the nominating committee for 15 years, and also served on the executive, investment, compensation, budget, and audit committees, and the ad hoc committee to review current structure and operation of the board.

Love, who also was a board member for UPMC Health System and UPMC Presbyterian, continues on the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business Board of Visitors.

Emeritus trustees are former trustees elected to emeritus status by the board. Emeritus trustees may participate at board meetings but do not vote. They may serve as voting members of board committees.
