CLOTHESLINE PROJECT DISPLAYED AT PITT
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 -- To commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the University of Pittsburgh's Residence Life office will display the Clothesline Project on Monday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the Towers main lobby, 3955 Forbes Avenue, Oakland.
The Clothesline Project, which bears witness to the violence against women, features more than 100 shirts decorated to represent a woman's experience. The Project began in Hyannis, MA in 1990 with 31 shirts created by the survivor, or someone close to the survivor, of a violent act. Since then, projects have begun all around the world.
In addition to recognizing violence against women, the Project helps with the healing process; educates, documents, and raises society's awareness; and provides a nationwide network of support.
Pitt is borrowing the Clothesline Project Display from Slippery Rock University. A table also will be available at Pitt to make additional t-shirts. For more information, call 412-648-1200.
