ADDITIONAL DETAILS ANNOUNCED FOR 29TH ANNUAL PITT JAZZ SEMINAR & CONCERT

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 14 -- The University of Pittsburgh celebrates its 29th annual Jazz Seminar & Concert the week of Nov. 2 - 6 with a line-up of internationally renowned jazz greats, free on-campus lectures and seminars, a demonstration of Pitt's digital recording studio, a special photo exhibit, and the annual concert at Carnegie Music Hall on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m.

Performers include Grover Washington, Jr., saxophone; Ernie Watts, saxophone; James Moody, saxophone; Wallace Roney, trumpet; Mike Mossman, trumpet; Bob Brookmeyer, trombone; Russell Malone, guitar; Kenny Barron, piano; Abraham Laboriel, bass, and Winard Harper, drums, under the direction of Pitt's Jazz Studies Director Nathan Davis, saxophone.

CONCERT DETAILS

Musicians will take the Carnegie Music Hall stage on Saturday, Nov. 6 at

8 p.m. to perform arrangements by Nathan Davis. The diverse playing styles and impromptu nature of the gathering make this a one-of-a-kind performance; these musicians have never performed together as an ensemble.

Tickets are $17 for the general public and are available at the William Pitt Union (WPU) box office, any TicketMaster location, or by calling 412-323-1919 (www.ticketmaster.com). Student tickets are $8.50 with a valid Pitt ID, available at the WPU only.

State Representative William R. Robinson will serve as the evening's master of ceremonies. At intermission, two new members of the International Academy of Jazz Hall of Fame will be inducted and the Pitt Jazz Seminar Committee Award will be presented to one of the performers.

Dan Morgenstern, director, Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies; former editor of the magazines Down Beat, Metronome, and Jazz; author of "Jazz People" (1976) and hundreds of articles and liner notes for which he has won many Grammy Awards.

Wednesday, Nov. 3

Heinz Chapel -- 7 p.m.

"The Business of Jazz"

Williard Jenkins, jazz educator, journalist and arts consultant; founder of Open Sky, an enterprise that encompasses writing, editing, artist management, art organization development, event development and concert production.

Thursday, Nov. 4

William R. Robinson Recording Studio, Bellefield Hall -- 7 p.m.

"Jazz in the Studio"

Dae Bennett, CD producer, studio designer, technician, and son of legendary Tony Bennett, will demonstrate recording techniques at Pitt's digital recording studio, which Bennett helped design. Pitt students who take a class in this studio earn a certificate and produce their own CD.
