PITT ANNOUNCES LINE-UP FOR 29TH ANNUAL JAZZ SEMINAR AND CONCERT
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 17 -- An exciting line-up of legendary jazz musicians will take part in the 29th annual University of Pittsburgh Jazz Seminar & Concert, Nov. 2 - 6 on the Pitt campus in Oakland.
The talent includes musical greats Wallace Roney, trumpet; Mike Mossman, trumpet; Bob Brookmeyer, trombone; Grover Washington, Jr., saxophone; Ernie Watts, saxophone; James Moody, saxophone; Russell Malone, guitar; Kenny Barron, piano; Abraham Laboriel, bass; Winard Harper, drums, under the direction of Pitt's Jazz Studies Director Nathan Davis, saxophone.
In keeping with tradition, the guest performers will conduct on-campus seminars, free and open to the public, and hold workshops for students that week at two Pittsburgh area schools. Brown bag lunches featuring Pitt student jazz ensembles will be held throughout campus. The week culminates with a concert at Carnegie Music Hall, Saturday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. Concert tickets are $17 general admission and $8.50 for students with a valid Pitt I.D., and are expected to go on sale Oct. 1 at the William Pitt Union.
Other Jazz Week highlights include evening lectures on "The History of Jazz" Nov. 2, "The Business of Jazz" Nov. 3, and a demonstration in Pitt's state-of-the-art digital recording studio Nov. 4.
Pitt's jazz event was launched by Davis in 1970 and was the first academic large-scale series of jazz seminars in the country to unite world-famous professional jazz musicians with aspiring students.
