PITT NAMES VICE PROVOST FOR FACULTY AFFAIRS
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 10 -- Andrew R. Blair has been named vice provost for faculty affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, effective Oct. 1. He is currently professor of business administration and economics at the university's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and director of Pitt's International Business Center and its affiliate, the Center for International Enterprise Development.
Blair joined the University of Pittsburgh faculty in 1971 and served additionally as associate dean and executive associate dean in the Katz Graduate School of Business from 1971 to 1989. He also has held a joint appointment in the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. During 1996-97, Blair served as interim dean of the Katz School.
"Having worked closely with Dr. Blair on many occasions, I have always been impressed by the confidence his colleagues placed in his sound judgment, his administrative abilities, and the leadership skills he displayed," said Pitt Provost James V. Maher.
Before coming to Pitt, Blair was at Fordham for a number of years, serving at various periods as acting dean of the College of Business Administration and vice chairman of the Department of Economics. During 1969, he served as an economist in the foreign research division of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Blair, who received his doctorate and master's degrees in economics from Fordham, is an international/macro-economist whose teaching and research interests focus on the relationship of international trade to the process of direct investment by multinational corporations, the international economics of economic development, and the process of economic transformation in central and eastern Europe.
Blair has served as president of the Association of International Business Education and Research. He also is a former treasurer and member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the Council on International Educational Exchange, based in New York City.
