NEW DEAN NAMED TO HEAD PITT'S COLLEGE OF GENERAL STUDIES
PITTSBURGH, April 15 -- Susan R. Kinsey has been named dean of the University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies (CGS), which provides educational opportunities to adult non-traditional students. She assumes her new position August 1, 1999.
Kinsey comes to CGS with more than 20 years experience in continuing education and summer programs management, university teaching and curriculum development. She has administered revenue centers for a variety of constituents, both traditional and non-traditional, domestic and international, and internal and external, within a university's larger community.
She is currently dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs at American University in Washington D.C. From 1988 to 1996, she held the same position at the American University of Paris, setting up courses, seminars, workshops and travel study programs for more than 4,500 Europeans and Americans a year. Prior to that she was the assistant dean of Degree and Certificate Programs at the New School for Social Research in New York and program director for the Institute for Continuing Education at Long Island University in New York. She received her doctorate and master's degrees in French Literature from Columbia University.
"I am confident that with her strong background in organizational leadership and knowledge of traditional and non-traditional students, Dr. Kinsey will revitalize the College of General Studies, and use it to communicate the University's quality, economic importance and cultural contributions to our neighbors," said Pitt Provost James V. Maher.
Kinsey is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Continuing Higher Education, and a member of the International Relations Committee of the University Continuing Education Association and the European University Continuing Education Network.
