The following events at the University of Pittsburgh are open to the public and cover the time period, January 3 - January 14.
LECTURES
1/3/99 Reuben E. Slesinger, professor emeritus of economics, will give his annual economic forecast. Tree of Life Synagogue at Wilkins and Shady Avenue, Squirrel Hill, 9:30 a.m. Open to the public, includes free breakfast.
1/10/99 Reuben E. Slesinger will give a second presentation of his annual economic forecast, following a buffet dinner. University Club, 123 University Place, Oakland. Dinner at 5:30 p.m, reservations required. The cost is $8.95 per person. Lecture at 7 p.m. For more information , call 648-1792.
1/14/99 The University of Pittsburgh's "Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series" continues with Mark Doty, author of four collections of poetry including "My Alexandria" and "Heaven's Coast." The Writers Series joins the Three Rivers Lecture Series and the International Poetry Forum as one of the three major reading events in the city. Cathedral of Learning, Room 324, 8:15 p.m. Free admission. For more information, call 624-6506.
1/11/98 Joan Casanovas, professor of History at Universitat Rovira y Virgili in Tarragona, Spain, will present a lecture entitled "Class, Race, and Nation: Urban Workers in Cuba 1850-1900."
