MEXICAN GOVERNOR CANALES TO VISIT PITT, DISCUSS DEMOCRACY IN HIS COUNTRY
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 3 -- Fernando Canales Clarion, governor of the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, will discuss the challenges to democracy in his country at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 10 in Room 3J12 of the Forbes Quadrangle Building on the University of Pittsburgh campus.
Canales, who is visiting Pennsylvania to sign several agreements related to trade and education, has a law degree from the Free School of Law in Mexico City and an MBA degree from Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM) and has studied French language and civilization at the Sorbonne in Paris. He has been president of the Chamber of Commerce of both Nuevo Leon and Monterrey. He was elected governor of Nuevo Leon in 1997.
Canales' visit to Pitt is sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs of the University of Pittsburgh.
The lecture is free and open to the public. The Forbes Quadrangle Building is located at 230 S. Bouquet Street.
