PITT'S SCHOOL OF INFORMATION SCIENCES ESTABLISHES MEMORIAL STUDENT AWARD

Contact:

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 30 -- An award honoring the memory of a former employee has been established by the University of Pittsburgh's School of Information Sciences (SIS) and will be given annually to the best dissertation proposal defended within the Department of Library and Information Science in the previous year.

Known as the Margaret Mary Corbett Memorial Award, it honors a former secretary in the Department of Library and Information Science who died

Sept. 14, 1997. In the year since, faculty, family, friends and graduates have donated generously to the Department in her name.

Initial proceeds from the fund were used to begin a garden on the patio of the SIS building by providing a planter with a flowering crabapple tree. The remaining funds were designated to establish the memorial award, which includes a cash prize, which may be used to support the winner's research study and a plaque engraved with the winner's name displayed permanently in the Department.

Contributions to the Corbett fund can be sent to the attention of the Dean's Office, School of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, 135

N. Bellefield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15260.
