WORLD BANK CHIEF ECONOMIST TO LECTURE AT PITT
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 22 -- As Tokyo stocks plunge and economic turmoil continues throughout Asia, Russia and now Latin America, Joseph Stiglitz, chief economist of The World Bank will deliver a lecture Wednesday, Sept. 23 at
3:30 p.m. at Pitt's Frick Fine Arts auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
"Must Economic Crises Be This Frequent And This Painful?" is the title of Stiglitz' talk, which is presented as the 1998 Marion O'Kellie McKay Lecture.
Stiglitz is senior vice-president of development economics at The World Bank, professor of economics at Stanford University, chairman of the U.S. Council of Economic Advisors since 1995, and an active member of President Clinton's economic team since 1993.
