PITT ANNOUNCES LINE-UP OF JAZZ LEGENDS FOR 28TH ANNUAL SEMINAR & CONCERT

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 11 -- Legendary jazz musicians from around the globe will take part in the 28th annual University of Pittsburgh Jazz Seminar & Concert, Nov. 2 - 7 on the Pitt campus in Oakland. The talent line-up includes musical greats Jon Faddis, trumpet; Eddie Henderson, trumpet; Curtis Fuller, trombone; James Moody, saxophone; Hank Crawford, saxophone; George Cables, piano; Abraham Laboriel, bass; Idris Muhammad, drums; Larry Coryell, guitar; special guest Herbie Mann, flute; and Nathan Davis, saxophones. In keeping with tradition, the guest performers will conduct on-campus seminars, free and open to the public, and hold workshops for young people at area schools. The week will culminate Saturday, November 7 at 8 p.m. when the jazz greats, some of whom have never before played together, perform in concert at Carnegie Music Hall, Oakland. Concert tickets are $17 general admission and $8.50 for students with a valid Pitt I.D, and will be on sale by late September.

A highlight this year will be a display that includes approximately 30 International Jazz Hall of Fame (IJHF) posthumous awards that have been presented to the estates of world-renowned jazz artists, Benny Goodman's original score of "Let's Dance," as well as other items from the IJHF, all on permanent loan to Pitt. Jazz week events include the dedication of a state-of-the-art on-campus digital recording studio to be used for teaching purposes, a seminar on the history of jazz and a session on international laws governing musicians' rights and royalty fees.

Founded in 1970 by Pitt Jazz Studies Director Nathan Davis, Pitt's jazz event was the first academic large-scale seminar in the country to bring together world-famous professionals and aspiring musicians.
