PULITZER PRIZE WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER TO SPEAK AT PITT

PITTSBURGH, May 20 -- Martha Rial, local Pulitzer Prize winning photographer, will address the Women's International Club of the Nationality Rooms Program on Wednesday, June 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the University Club, 123 University Place, Oakland.

Her illustrated lecture will highlight her series of photos of Rwandan and Burundian refugees in Tanzania, taken in late 1996 and published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in January 1997. The series captured the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for spot news photography.

Ms. Rial, 36, has been a staff photographer for the Post-Gazette since 1994. She is a Squirrel Hill resident and a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Ohio University. After working for newspapers in Virginia and Florida, she returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh. Rial's work has been honored by the National Headliners Awards, Women In Communications, the Society of Black Journalists, and several other associations.
