Folk and Classical Pianist Jacqueline Schwab to Perform at Pitt March 10

PITTSBURGH—Pitt's Center for American Music is cohosting a concert, "Music From the Victorian Era to the Jazz Age," featuring folk and classical pianist Jacqueline Schwab, at 8 p.m., March 10, in Pitt's Frick Fine Arts Auditorium on Schenley Drive in Oakland. A Pittsburgh native, Schwab has performed on the soundtracks of a number of public television documentaries, including Ken Burns' Mark Twain and Burns' Grammy Award-winning Civil War. Drawing inspiration from the traditional music of England, Scotland, Ireland, and the United States, she blends folk, classical and new age music in her performances. She has performed at the White House for President Clinton to commemorate Burns' Lewis and Clark film and at the Smithsonian Institution in 2000, in conjunction with its exhibition on the presidency.

Schwab cofounded the quartet Bare Necessities, whose members play the flute and fiddle, and performs at English country dance events around the country. Her performance at Pitt is cosponsored by the Country Dance and Song Society of Pittsburgh.
