2/26 The first of two symposia discussing the historical implications of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore excavation results will take place at

9:30 a.m., Room 202, Frick Fine Arts Building, Schenley Drive, Oakland. Pitt Professor of Art History Franklin Toker, director of excavations under the Florence Cathedral, will moderate the event. Guest speakers include Ralph Mathisen, professor of classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Thomas F. X. Noble, professor of history and director of the Medieval Institute at Notre Dame University. The second symposium will take place March 19. 2/24 Pitt Repertory Theatre presents Rashomon, from the screenplay by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, adapted by Faye and Michael Kanin, and directed by Yukihiro Goto, in the Charity Randall Theatre, Stephen Foster Memorial, Forbes and Bigelow avenues, Oakland. Performances will take place every day at 8 p.m., through Feb. 27. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m., and a special Shakespeare-in-the-Schools matinee will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 24. Admission is $25, which comprises the "Sundays in Japan" package: a dual admission to the play and the Carnegie Museum of Art, including the James B. Austin collection.
