Cracow Crèche Exhibition and Reception Dec. 11
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs, along with the Polish Nationality Room committee and the Polish Cultural Council, will present a Cracow Crèche Exhibition and reception at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 in the William Pitt Union Lower Lounge, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. This event is free and open to the public.
The creation of crèches, called Szopka, is a folk craft found only in the ancient Polish city of Cracow. These works of art were first displayed in Cracow churches as puppetry in religious morality plays. Local Pittsburgh residents ages 14 to 60 will unveil their completed crèches, which they created at the Cracow Crèche WorkshopsTM, the only formal crèche-making classes of their kind in North America.
