Former White House Security and Counterterrorism Advisor Richard Clarke to Speak at Pitt Oct. 12

PITTSBURGH—Richard Clarke—an internationally recognized expert on security, including homeland security, national security, cyber security, and counterterrorism—will deliver a free public lecture at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in Rooms 5 and 6, Scaife Hall, 3550 Terrace St., at the University of Pittsburgh. Clarke's appearance is sponsored by Pitt's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

Clarke, chair of Good Harbor Consulting and an on-air consultant for ABC News, served the last three U.S. presidents as a senior White House advisor. Over the course of 11 consecutive years of White House service, he held the titles of special assistant to the president for global affairs, national coordinator for security and counterterrorism, and special advisor to the president for cyber security. He is the author of Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terrorism (Free Press, 2004).

Prior to his White House years, Clarke served for 19 years in the Pentagon, the intelligence community, and the U.S. State Department. During the Reagan Administration, he was deputy assistant secretary of state for intelligence. During the senior Bush Administration, he served as assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs and coordinated diplomatic efforts to support the 1990-91 Gulf War and the subsequent security arrangements.

As chair of Good Harbor Consulting, LLC, Clarke advises clients on such issues as corporate security risk management, information security technology, counterterrorism, and dealing with the federal government on security and information technology issues.
