Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theatre to Present Free Staged Readings of Two Plays

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's Kuntu Repertory Theatre will present staged readings of two plays written by Kuntu playwrights Dec. 8 and 9, in the Studio Theatre on the ground floor of the Cathedral of Learning. To Whom It May Concern by Linda Hunt will be presented Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. Boys, written by Gregory Allen, will take place Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. Both readings are free and open to the public.

To Whom It May Concern explores the dynamics of a family as its members confront life's issues. The story centers on Lee, a professional man who struggles with allowing his family to know he is gay.

Boys is the story of Sterling Gamble, whose incarceration keeps him from his girlfriend and infant son. While he is in jail, Sterling's best friend, Matt, begins to care for the boy. A conflict arises when Sterling is released from prison and wants the boy back, but Matt has no intention of giving up the boy he has grown to love.

Hunt, a well-known actress to Kuntu audiences, is a Master of Fine Arts student in Pitt's Department of Theatre Arts. Allen is a screenwriter and playwright who teaches film in Pitt's English department. Both plays are being considered for the Lorraine Hansberry Playwrighting Award and the Paula Vogel Award in Playwrighting.
