Pitt Students Seeking a Cure to Hold Registration Nov. 14 For Cancer Fundraiser

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's Students Seeking a Cure will hold a team registration and sign-up session to promote Relay for Life, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 on the William Pitt Union lawn and patio, 3959 Fifth Ave., in Oakland. The Relay for Life, to take place April 2 and 3, will help raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life is a 24-hour event that features a walking relay, music, carnival-type activities, and food. Relay teams will comprise eight to 15 people. Each team is required to have one person walking on a track, which will be set up on the Cathedral of Learning's lower lawn. That person will be replaced by a team member upon completing the set course, or when fatigued. Teams will be permitted to have a tent where participating members can spend the night. Teams can raise money for the American Cancer Society by holding fundraisers beforehand, having people sponsor teams for the amount of laps walked, or by running a foodstand at the event.

A team captain, who will be responsible for communicating information to teammates, must be chosen at registration. Each team member will pay $5, which will cover the cost of a T-shirt and information about the relay event.
