Pitt Alumni Association to Hold Career Networking Event Oct. 23

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association and the Office of Career Services are cosponsoring "Pathways to Professions: A Career Networking Event" from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Connolly Ballroom of Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., in Oakland.

Various networking receptions will give graduates the opportunity to explore new career paths and to learn how to network effectively. Alumni will be able to share knowledge and insight about their particular field while strengthening their ties to the University.

"Pathways to Professions" will include three concurrent programs, one for alumni mentors, one for job-seeking alumni and graduate students, and the third for undergraduate students. Registration for the three programs will be held in the Alumni Hall lobby. Undergraduate registration is from 3:30 to 3:50 p.m.; alumni mentor registration is from 5 to 5:30 p.m.; and job-seeking alumni and graduate student registration is from 5 to 5:20 p.m.

The undergraduate program will feature a panel discussion and a presentation by Frederick W. Hill, Pitt alumnus and board of trustee member who is executive vice president of J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. Hill held the same position with the Chase Manhattan Bank prior to its merger with J.P. Morgan in 2001. Currently responsible for marketing and communications worldwide, Hill has held similar positions at several large corporations. He was a senior vice president for communications and community relations at McDonnell Douglas Corporation and a senior corporate relations executive at Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

"I am delighted to come back to the University of Pittsburgh. And, I am especially happy to visit and talk with students and fellow alumni," said Hill. "If I can help to provide advice and career direction by sharing my experiences with Pitt students, I am very happy to do so. It is one way I can give something back to the University."

Hill taught at Pitt as an adjunct professor for 11 years during which time he was repeatedly recognized with "Teaching Excellence" awards. He also is a member of the Board of Visitors of Pitt's School of Law, the U.S. Military Academy's Civilian Public Affairs Committee, the Arthur W. Page Society, and the Wiseman and the Public Relations Seminar Committee.

Born in Pittsburgh, Hill received both the Bachelor of Arts degree and the

J.D. degree from Pitt. He is a member of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia bar associations.
