PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's internationally renowned Kuntu Repertory Theatre (KRT) opens its 2003-2004 season with the Pittsburgh premiere of Valetta Anderson's She'll Find Her Way Home Oct. 16 in the Seventh-Floor Auditorium of Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., in Oakland. The play runs through Nov. 1. It is one of four upcoming KRT productions reflecting this season's theme of the role of African Americans in the development of the American West.

She'll Find Her Way Home, directed by KRT founder and artistic director Vernell Lillie, is an account of the courtship of Martha and Isaiah Montgomery, the African American founders of the town of Mound Bayou, Miss.

Anderson, former professor of drama at Spelman College, is executive director and board member of the Southeast Playwrights Project in Atlanta, Ga., and serves on the board of the Soapstone Center for the Arts in Decatur, Ga. She teaches playwriting to high school students through the Alliance Theatre's Young Playwrights Project in Atlanta, and is a member of Alternate ROOTS, the Dramatists Guild, and the Women in Theatre Program of the Association of Theatre in Higher Education.

Anderson will conduct a free workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 in Room 3T01 Wesley W. Posvar Hall on the Pitt campus. She will offer tips to playwrights on how to make their stories compelling, develop scripts, and market a script without an agent. For more information, call 412-624-7298.

The cast of She'll Find Her Way Home includes Pitt students Jessica Burch as Martha Robb, Rita Gregory as Gussie, Julian Hicks as Thomas, Bria Walker as Beth, and Leo Beatty as Isaiah.

Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. There will be a special student and senior citizen matinee at 11 a.m. Oct. 30. For ticket and group sales information, call 412-624-7298, or visit www.kuntu.org. Tickets are also available at Dorsey's Records and at the William Pitt Union Box Office.
