Contact:

PITTSBURGH—World-renowned jazz musicians will convene on Pitt's Oakland campus Oct. 28-Nov. 1 for the 33rd Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, the longest-running event of its kind in the country.

This year's line-up includes: James Moody, saxophone; Jackie McLean, saxophone; Jon Faddis, trumpet; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Abraham Laboriel, bass; Mulgrew Miller, piano; Pat Martino, guitar; and Billy Cobham, drums. These legendary artists will perform under the direction of Nathan Davis, the head of Pitt's Jazz Studies Program and founder of the event.

The guest performers will conduct free on-campus seminars, host mini-clinics for students at area schools, and give free performances at other community venues. Two free on-campus evening lectures will take place Oct. 28 and 30, and the week will culminate with the annual concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 1 at Carnegie Music Hall. Concert tickets, $18 general admission and $8 for students with a valid ID, are scheduled to go on sale the week of Sept. 22 at any TicketMaster location, by phone at 412-323-1919, online at www.ticketmaster.com, and at the main box office of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave.

The Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert was the first academic jazz seminar in the country to feature international artists connecting with aspiring student performers in a lecture format. All seminars continue to be open to the public at no charge.

Complete seminar schedules and background information on the performers will be available in the coming weeks. For additional information, call the Jazz Studies Program at 412-624-4187, or visit www.pitt.edu/~pittjazz.
