University of Pittsburgh School of Law to Hold Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture on Racial Justice Feb. 6

PITTSBURGH—University of Southern California Professor of Law Jody Armour will deliver the University of Pittsburgh School of Law's annual lecture on racial justice at noon Feb. 6 at the Teplitz Memorial Courtroom, 3900 Forbes Ave.

Armour, the Roy P. Crocker Professor of Law, will honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. in an address titled "Black Hearts in White Minds; Where Bias Lives in Blame and Punishment."

Last year, Armour was named a Soros Justice Senior Fellow by the Open Society Institute's Center on Crime, Communities, and Culture. As part of the yearlong fellowship, Armour is working on a book titled "Hearts and Minds in Blame and Punishment," which examines issues of gender, drugs, and mental illness in the criminal justice system.

Author of "Negrophobia & Reasonable Racism: The Hidden Costs of Being Black in America" (New York University Press, 1997), Armour also has had articles published in University law reviews at Vanderbilt, the University of Colorado, Southwestern University, and Boston College.

Armour attained the A.B. degree in sociology at Harvard University in 1982 and his J.D. degree from Boalt Hall Law School at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1986. In 1990, Armour came to Pitt's School of Law, where he served as an assistant professor until 1995 and associate professor until 1997.

Armour teaches students a diverse array of subjects that include "Enterprise Liability," "Prejudice and the Rule of Law," "Stereotypes and Law," and "Torts."
