PITTSBURGH A panel discussion that will offer a cultural perspective of the Middle East, "Cultures in Conflict: Change and Dissolution," will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Tues., Oct. 15, in room 324 of the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning. The fee for attending the session is $18.

Participants include Erez Kreisler, mayor of the Regional Council of the Misgav region of Galilee, who has been instrumental in supporting activities between Jews and Arabs that promote the coexistence of individuals of diverse backgrounds; Michael Fisher, a resident of both Pittsburgh and Israel who is researching art and culture at the museums of Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, in Israel; and Maher and Rawda Assad, a Palestinian couple from the West Bank who now live in Pittsburgh.

The discussion is the third and final session in the series "From Swords to Plowshares: Perspectives on the Middle East," sponsored by the Center for Lifetime Learning in Pitt's College of General Studies. Its aim is to provide a forum for questions, answers, and debate, in an attempt to move the Middle East discussion forward toward increased clarity, resolution, and hope. Audience participation is encouraged. To register, or for more information, call 412/383-8600.
