Palestinian Children's Art Exhibited in Pittsburgh Show opens in Pitt's Connie M. Kimbo Gallery Oct. 14

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh School of Education's Institute for International Studies in Education (IISE), the Pacem in Terris Institute of LaRoche College, the Arab Cultural Organization at Pitt, the Arab Student Organization of Carnegie Mellon University, and the Palestine Solidarity Committee of Pittsburgh will present an art exhibition titled "Innocence Under Siege" at the Connie M. Kimbo Gallery on Oct. 14-15, in Pitt's William Pitt Union.

The art exhibition will begin at 6:30 p.m. Neil Boothby, director of Save the Children's Children in Crisis office, will later present a lecture titled "Children in Crisis" in the adjacent Lower Lounge, followed by a reception at 8:30 p.m. The exhibition will be on display on Oct. 16-17 at the Selma Burke Gallery at the Kingsley Center, 6118 Penn Circle South, in East Liberty.

"Innocence Under Siege" contains 27 pieces of artwork created by Palestinian children. The exhibition is produced by al-Phan, a Chicago-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting Palestinian artists.

Prior to joining Save the Children in August 1999, Boothby served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' senior coordinator for refugee children. A former professor of policy studies at Duke University, he also is the recipient of the Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award for his work with child soldiers, and the Mickey Leland Award for his work on behalf of uprooted people. Boothby holds the Ph.D. degree in child development from Harvard University.
