PITTSBURGH Sherry M. Cleary, director of the University Child Development Center, has been named president of the National Coalition for Campus Children's Centers (NCCC), an international organization that promotes service, teaching, and research in programs for young children on college and university campuses.

During her 18-month term as president, Cleary will advocate for national policy changes relating to early childhood education and help to oversee the NCCC's annual conference, its publications, and its technical support to approximately 400 colleges and universities across the country.

Cleary will continue her duties at the University Child Development Center, where she has been director for nine years. Located adjacent to the Pitt campus, the center provides child care and early childhood education, with priority enrollment offered to children of Pitt faculty, staff, and students. Cleary also offers intensive 600-hour training programs at the center for individuals interested in working in the early childhood education field.

An assistant professor in Pitt's School of Education, Cleary sits on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Children's Museum. She acts in an advisory capacity in matters that deal with young children, parenting, balancing work and family, curriculum, teacher development, research, administration, and program development.
