Pitt Lecture to Focus on Race and College Student Development

PITTSBURGH-Race and ethnicity in the development of today's college student will be the focus of a lecture by Kathy W. Humphrey, Pitt's vice provost and dean of students, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Pitt's Center on Race and Social Problems (CRSP), School of Social Work Conference Center, 20th floor, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. The talk, titled "Race, Ethnicity, and College Student Development: From Theory to Practice," is the final lecture in the Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC Fall 2009 Speaker Series.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, and lunch will be provided. For more information, call 412-624-7382.

Humphrey holds a pivotal and supportive role in the achievement of Pitt's broader educational goals. Areas under her purview include the Office of Student Life, Residence Life, University Counseling Center, Student Health Service, University Judicial Affairs System, Disability Resources and Services, and the newly created Office of Cross-Cultural and Leadership Development Center. With Humphrey's leadership, these units work in sync to coordinate programs, activities, and services with the goal of supporting an enriching, safe, and diverse environment that maximizes student learning and development and complements Pitt's research-focused academic programs.

Humphrey also has a faculty appointment in Pitt's School of Education.
