The University of Pittsburgh to Present April 2 Lecture by Gordon Goldstein Titled "Lessons in Leadership From JFK and LBJ for America's New Commander in Chief"

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh's Matthew B. Ridgway Center for International Security Studies will present a lecture by Gordon Goldstein titled "Lessons in Leadership From JFK and LBJ for America's New Commander in Chief" at 7 p.m. April 2, Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland. Goldstein is an international security advisor to the executive office of the United Nations Secretary-General's Strategic Planning Unit.

Goldstein will discuss the importance of understanding why and how U.S. presidents take the country to war and lessons that can be learn from past experiences. In his recently published book "Lessons in Disaster: McGeorge Bundy and the Path to War in Vietnam" (Times Books, 2008), Goldstein offers insight into the presidential mindset during one of the most critical foreign policy decisions in U.S. history.

Goldstein received his bachelor's, master's, Master of Philosophy, and PhD degrees in political science and international relations from Columbia University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Goldstein's articles on international affairs have appeared in "The New York Times," "Newsweek," and "The Washington Post."
