Pitt to Present "The Overextended American Military-Prospects for Our Future," A March 19 Lecture by Lawrence Korb

PITTSBURGH-The Graduate School of Public and International Affairs' (GSPIA) Matthew B. Ridgway Center at Pitt and the National Security Network will present a free public lecture by Lawrence Korb, titled "The Overextended American Military-Prospects for our Future," at 7:15 p.m. March 19 in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.

A senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a senior advisor to the Center for Defense Information, and a former GSPIA dean, Korb will address the U.S. military's preparedness and overextension and discuss the future of U.S. national security. He also will offer suggestions for how President Obama should deal with challenges the country is facing.

Korb was assistant secretary of defense under President Reagan from 1981 to 1985, where he oversaw 70 percent of the U.S. defense budget. He previously served as a senior fellow and director of National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Korb served on active duty as a Naval flight officer and received the defense department's Distinguished Public Service medal. He was previously the vice president of corporate operations at Raytheon, a leader in developing defense technologies, and a senior fellow at Brookings.

He has authored more than 20 books and 100 articles on national security issues, appeared more than 1,000 times on major television shows, and written more than 100 op-ed pieces in the Washington Post, New York Times, and other leading publications.
