Jeff Gleim Named Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations, Executive Director of Pitt Alumni Association

PITTSBURGH-Jeff Gleim has been named the University of Pittsburgh's associate vice chancellor for alumni relations and executive director of the Pitt Alumni Association (PAA), effective Jan. 2, Pitt Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement Albert J. Novak announced. Gleim, who has served as Pitt's interim associate vice chancellor for alumni relations since Aug. 1, was appointed two years ago as the PAA's associate executive director after a national search was conducted as part of a succession-planning program.

"Pitt sits at the forefront of alumni relations among major American universities," said Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg. "At this important time in our history, we are fortunate that Jeff Gleim-a nationally respected alumni relations professional-will provide strong leadership to a program that already is known for its vision, its values, and its effectiveness. I am confident that Jeff will lead an outstanding alumni association to even higher levels of quality, achievement, and impact."

Before coming to Pitt, Gleim was the director of The Ohio State University Alumni Association's Advocates Program. He served for more than a decade in a number of key management positions within the Ohio State Alumni Association. While at Ohio State, Gleim was responsible for more than 200 alumni clubs and organizations worldwide. He directed successful alumni advocacy programs and was instrumental in developing Ohio State's new strategic plan and generating new sources of revenue. Novak notes that Gleim is a figure of national stature in the field of alumni relations and was a member for two years of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V Conference Planning Committee.

Prior to pursuing his academic career, Gleim served in the Office of the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives for nine years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at Ohio State.

In his role as Pitt associate vice chancellor for alumni relations and executive director of the Pitt Alumni Association, Gleim will oversee the association's communications, marketing, membership, student involvement, and outreach areas.

"Over the past six months, Jeff has instituted a number of new programs, including an on-campus alumni Homecoming event, and has reached across campus to build strong relationships with the schools and departments," Novak said. "His hard work and effectiveness validate the findings of the search committee."

Established in 1866, the PAA is a member service organization dedicated to serving the needs of more than 260,000 alumni worldwide. The Division of Alumni Relations within the Office on Institutional Advancement provides the administrative support for the association. The organization is staffed by 20 Alumni Relations colleagues who are responsible for a variety of programs and alumni services, including strategic planning; awards; career networking; student relations; learning and travel programs; communications; homecoming, reunions, and special events; an international network of alumni clubs, councils, and affinity groups; and governmental advocacy, marketing, membership, student recruitment, and scholarship programs. The Alumni Relations staff works with alumni professionals from Pitt's 16 schools and colleges and four regional campuses.
