Pitt Places 13th Among U.S. Public Universities, 35th Among All U.S. Universities in U.S. News & World Report's First World's Best Colleges And Universities Rankings

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh placed 13th among U.S. public universities and 35th among all U.S. universities in "U.S. News & World Report's" first World's Best Colleges and Universities rankings, where Pitt is listed among the top 100 universities worldwide. The rankings are based on data from the "Times Higher Education"-QS Quacquarelli Symonds Rankings, produced in association with QS Quacquarelli Symonds, known as one of the world's leading networks for careers and education that has been publishing world rankings since 2004.

The other institutions in the top 13 public U.S. universities ranking are Michigan, UCLA, UC-Berkeley, Wisconsin-Madison, UC-San Diego, Washington, Texas-Austin, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, UC-Davis, and Virginia; also included among the top 35 are Harvard, Yale, Cal Tech, Chicago, MIT, Columbia, Penn, Princeton, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Brown, Northwestern, NYU, Boston, Dartmouth, Washington U., Emory, Rice, and Case Western.

In the "U.S. News" world rankings, Pitt placed ahead of such other schools as Purdue, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, USC, Penn State, Georgetown, Ohio State, Maryland, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Indiana-Bloomington, and Colorado-Boulder.

According to "U.S. News & World Report," none of the data from "U.S. News'" America's Best Colleges and America's Best Graduate Schools rankings is used in the World's Best Colleges and Universities list. QS Quacquarelli Symonds does all of the data collection and calculations for the World's Best Colleges rankings, which use six criteria: academic peer review, employer review, student/faculty ratio, citations per faculty member, the proportion of international faculty, and the proportion of international students.
