Pitt's WPTS Radio to Offer Summer Program for High School Students

Contact:

PITTSBURGH-University of Pittsburgh radio station WPTS 92.1 FM will offer a summer program from June 24 through July 31 for Pittsburgh-area high school students, giving them the opportunity to get practical experience in broadcast media.

The program will be held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at WPTS' studio, located in the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

Through a combination of classroom-style learning and hands-on training, participating students will learn a different aspect of the radio industry each week. They will then demonstrate what they have learned as they work in teams to produce a twice-weekly, hourlong program, broadcast live on WPTS.

This is the second year for the summer program. Last year, guest presenters included broadcast professionals from KDKA, WDVE, Kiss FM, ESPN Radio 1250, WAMO, and others local stations.

WPTS is a noncommercial, educational radio station licensed to the University and operated by its students.

The cost of the program is $200. Need-based financial aid is available. Interested students should register by April 15. For more information, call 412-648-7990 or visit www.wpts.org/summer.
