The University of Pittsburgh's Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs To Host Lecture by Award-Winning Author and Political Analyst Alasdair Roberts
PITTSBURGH-Alasdair Roberts, award-winning author, political analyst, and professor in Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, will be at the University of Pittsburgh this Thursday to discuss his new book, "The Collapse of Fortress Bush: The Crisis of Authority in American Government" (New York University Press, 2008). The free public event will be held at 4:30 p.m. March 6, Schenley Lounge, Pittsburgh Athletic Association, 4215 Fifth Ave., Oakland; light refreshments will be provided.
Roberts' research suggests that the Bush administration, which often has been criticized for its unilateral decision-making, was in fact led by a weak president who was unable to wield authority effectively and with broad legitimacy. Roberts links the failures of the Bush presidency to historical trends in American politics and culture. The book paints a disturbing tale of the failure of executive leadership in a manner that transcends partisan politics.
