University of Pittsburgh's Student Organizations to Host "Burma Front and Center: An Evening with Evan Williams," March 27

PITTSBURGH-Evan Williams, celebrated international news correspondent and documentary filmmaker, will be speaking at the University of Pittsburgh at 7 p.m., March 27, Benedum Engineering Auditorium, 3700 O'Hara St., Oakland. His lecture, "Burma Front and Center," will focus on the current humanitarian situation in Burma and will highlight effective ways for student groups to advocate for human rights. A question and answer session will follow.

Evans has more than 20 years of experience reporting on international issues for broadcasters around the globe. He has spent a significant amount of time in Burma and was blacklisted from entering the country in the early 1990s for reporting on the government's efforts to stifle pro-democratic forces.

The event is hosted by Students Taking Action Now: Darfur (STAND) and is cosponsored by the Asian Students' Alliance, Black Action Society, Student Honors Activities Committee, Hillel, Theta Nu Xi, Facilitating Opportunities for Refugee Growth and Empowerment (FORGE), College Democrats, and the Global Studies Program.
