Pitt's Indian Committee to Host Celebration and Parade In Honor of the 60th Year of India's Independence
PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh's Indian Nationality Room Committee will begin their annual celebration a little differently in the 60th year of India's Independence.
The Aug. 19 festivities will commence with a parade at 11 a.m. on the Fifth Ave. side of the Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. The parade will be followed by a 12:15 to
4 p.m. gala to be held in the Commons Room of the Cathedral.
In light of the anniversary celebration of the British ending colonial rule of the country, the committee, along with Pitt's Intercultural Exchange Program, several local organizations, the Pittsburgh Indian community, and the general public will participate in a day of culture with performers of traditional folk-dance, spicy food, henna hand painting, and a chance to purchase genuine Indian artifacts from local vendors.
