The University of Pittsburgh to Host Two Guest Lecturers on International Matters April 16

PITTSBURGH-Pitt's Ford Institute for Human Security and the European Union Center of Excellence/European Studies Center (EUCE/ESC) will present a lecture by Baroness Kishwer Falkner, of Margravine, a liberal democrat peer in the United Kingdom's House of Lords. Her lecture is titled "U.S. Foreign Policy and Democracy in the Muslim World: Options After Iraq" at noon April 16 in 4130 Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. Falkner is Spokesman for Communities and Local Government and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Development Policy. Falkner is the first Muslim frontbencher in Britain; she takes an active interest in foreign affairs and civil liberties, community relations, and integration.

Following this lecture, Robert Falkner, a lecturer of international relations at the London School of Economics, will give a talk titled "Europe as a 'Green Normative Power'? A Political-Economic Perspective on EU Leadership in International Biosafety Regulation" at 2 p.m. in 4217 Posvar Hall. Robert Falkner is on leave as a visiting scholar at Harvard University's Center for European Studies. He is deputy director of the London School of Economics' Centre for Environmental Policy and Governance and is currently serving as associate editor of the European Journal of International Relations.
