University of Pittsburgh Announces Line-Up for 36th Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert
PITTSBURGH-A dynamic group of international jazz musicians will give free lectures and demonstrations at the University of Pittsburgh Nov. 1-4 as part of the 36th Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, the longest-running event of its kind in the country. The week of seminars will culminate with the annual concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 in Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
Musicians include Pittsburgh native Ron Affif, guitar; Oscar Brashear, trumpet; Winard Harper, drums; Donald Harrison, alto saxophone; Abraham Laboriel, bass; Jimmy Owens, trumpet; Dave Pike, vibes; Patrice Rushen, piano; and Nestor Torres, flute. They will perform under the direction of Nathan Davis, saxophonist, head of Pitt's Jazz Studies Program and founder of the annual event.
During Jazz Week, the guest artists will hold free on-campus lectures and demonstrations for students and the public, host miniclinics for students in area schools, and give free demonstrations at two community venues. Two evening lecturers are scheduled to present on-campus talks on the history and business of jazz.
