Morgan K. O'Brien Appointed to Be a Commonwealth Trustee on University of Pittsburgh Board
PITTSBURGH-Morgan K. O'Brien, president and CEO of Duquesne Light Holdings, has been appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell and confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate to be a Commonwealth trustee on the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees. Duquesne Light Holdings is an electric-utility company with several affiliate companies whose principal subsidiary is Duquesne Light Company, the major supplier of electricity to the Pittsburgh region.
President and CEO of Duquesne Light Holdings since September 2001, O'Brien also is director, president, and CEO of Duquesne Light Company, a leader in the transmission and distribution of electric energy with more than a half million customers in Southwestern Pennsylvania. O'Brien was Chief Operating Officer of Duquesne Light Holdings from August 2000 to September 2001. Before that, he held several senior executive positions in Duquesne Light's corporate development and finance areas. Prior to joining the company in 1991, he served in various management positions at PNC Bank and major accounting firms.
O'Brien has led the successful implementation of Duquesne Light's "Back-to-Basics" strategic plan focused on returning the company to its core business as a solidly performing traditional electric utility and to its role as a community partner. In 2005, he announced a $500 million investment in the region's electrical infrastructure designed to replace aging equipment over several years.
A native of Pittsburgh, O'Brien, a Certified Public Accountant, received a bachelor's degree in business administration and master's degree in taxation from Robert Morris University.
O'Brien currently serves on the board of directors of the United Way of Allegheny County, the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, The Duquesne Club, and the Greater Pittsburgh Council-Boy Scouts of America. He also serves on the boards of Duquesne Light Holdings, the Edison Electric Institute, and the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies.
